Scalzo Hospitality is a third-generation, family-owned hospitality company built on the entrepreneurial spirit of our founder, Carmen Scalzo. In the 1950s, Carmen launched his hotel career with vision and grit—building three hotels in Sacramento: the Crest, the Sands, and the Acienda. He later expanded to Anaheim, California, where he built another Sands Motel and the Park Vue Inn along Harbor Boulevard—just as Walt Disney opened the gates to Disneyland. His instinct for location, innovation, and warm guest service laid the foundation for a family legacy that continues to thrive today.
Now, some seventy years later, led by grandsons Paul Durand (CEO) and Patrick Durand (CFO), Scalzo Hospitality blends that legacy with modern leadership and strategic growth. Over the last 25+ years, the company has developed, acquired, renovated, and rebranded numerous hotels and restaurants across the Country, including high-profile franchise partnerships like Marriott International.
Scalzo Hospitality focuses on passion-driven projects that create lasting, positive impact for both ownership groups and the communities we serve. While we are committed to scaling and growing, Scalzo Hospitality is not a transactional deal chaser- we are experiential developers and at heart. Paul C Durand
Paul is a seasoned hospitality executive with over 25 years of industry experience and more than two decades of leading Scalzo Hospitality; the hotel business his grandfather Carmen E. Scalzo founded in the mid 1950’s. As Scalzo’s Chief Executive Officer and impassioned visionary, Paul is honored to carry forward the proud family legacy of Sicilian immigrants while guiding the family business through strategic expansion, operational innovation, and a steadfast commitment to its core values:
Guest Service Focus, Consistency, Pride and Ownership.
Known for his hands-on leadership and ability to deliver under pressure, Paul excels at aligning teams around a clear vision and driving measurable outcomes. He believes that healthy conflict fosters stronger teams and sees adversity as an opportunity for innovation and growth. Whether navigating economic cycles or operational challenges, Paul is trusted for his adeptness to “land the plane”- delivering results while positioning Scalzo Hospitality for long-term, multi-generational success.

Patrick Durand
Chief Financial Officer

Patrick Durand
Patrick has served as Chief Financial Officer of Scalzo Hospitality since 2003, bringing over two decades of leadership in hospitality finance, operations, and strategic development. With a background in private accounting and a disciplined, data-driven mindset, Patrick has played a central role in hotel acquisitions, asset repositioning, and franchise brand development throughout the Country.
A Winona State Minnesota graduate and grandson of family business founder Carmen Scalzo, Patrick combines legacy with analytical precision. He is known for his ability to assess hotel performance, drive property improvement strategies, and create sustainable financial models that withstand market volatility. His leadership helped steward Scalzo through the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic- earning him a reputation for resilience, conservatism, and forward thinking. Today, Patrick oversees a growing portfolio of branded hotels and restaurants, delivering consistent returns to ownership while identifying meaningful opportunities for long-term value creation.

Ryan Haas
Chief Operating Officer

Ryan Haas
With over 25 years in hospitality and two decades in leadership, Ryan brings deep expertise in hotel operations, sales strategy, and large-scale project management. As General Manager and Chief Operating Officer for Scalzo Hospitality, Ryan is a driving force behind operational excellence and ownership-aligned outcomes.
Ryan is known for his ability to optimize departmental performance- drilling into labor models, cost controls, and revenue strategies to maximize profit margins across all operating areas. By building strong departmental fundamentals, he creates the conditions necessary to drive healthy EBIDTA. His disciplined execution and hands-on leadership ensures every initiative is efficient, aligned, and built to deliver sustainable bottom-line results.

Brian DeRose
Director West Coast Operations

Brian DeRose
Brian is a seasoned hospitality leader with 16 years of experience. As a Certified Hotel Administrator, and the current General Manager of Park Vue Inn, he oversees full hotel operations, sales & marketing, and P&L performance. With a keen eye for design and a deep knowledge base for trends in hospitality, he’s passionate about building strong brand identities, elevating guest experiences, and driving sustainable growth using high-performing teams and results focused leadership.

Maddy Johnson

Maddy Johnson
Maddy is the newest member of Scalzo’s Executive Team and has quickly become a vital part of the organization; serving as guardian of Scalzo Hospitality’s Culture. She brings a thoughtful, people-first approach to leadership and a strong foundation in human resources strategy.
With a passion for cultivating a positive workplace environment and supporting employee well-being, Maddy excels at cultivating an atmosphere where individuals can grow, thrive and make positive impacts. She has a sharp eye for talent and a deep understanding of organizational dynamics, which she leverages to promote collaboration, strengthen relationships, and ensure people remain at the center of every decision.

Ray Davis
Corporate Controller

Ray Davis
Ray serves as Scalzo’s Corporate Controller and has been a key member of the Executive Team for nearly a decade. With over 30 years of hospitality experience, Ray brings unmatched financial expertise and institutional knowledge to the organization. His journey- from dish pit to executive suite- is a testament to discipline, adaptability, and lifelong learning.
Ray is an Army Veteran medic but began his hospitality career in 1989 and advanced through roles in food and beverage, night audit, and hotel operations before discovering his passion for finance. He has since developed deep understanding and expertise in financial reporting, strategic planning, and internal controls. At Scalzo, Ray is known for his analytical mindset and commitment to accuracy, accountability, and transparency. His leadership plays a critical role in driving departmental profitability and aligning financial operations with ownership objectives.

Lindsey Lundgren
Director of Rooms

Lindsey Lundgren
Lindsey joined the Scalzo Hospitality team in 2015 and has become one of the company’s most dynamic and versatile leaders. As Scalzo’s Rooms Director, she is a true champion of guest experience and satisfaction. She played a key role in Scalzo’s successful opening of the Delta Hotel by Marriott in 2018 and was quickly promoted to Front Desk Supervisor during this pivotal time. From there, Lindsey’s growth continued as she advanced into increasingly complex leadership roles.
Over the years, Lindsey has served as Front Office Manager, Director of Outlets- overseeing restaurant and café operations- and Assistant General Manager, where she was responsible for the performance and cohesion of multiple departments. Her ability to lead high-performance teams, streamline operations, and deliver exceptional guest experiences has made her an essential part of Scalzo’s Executive Team; representing the Rooms Department with a full breadth of experience, unwavering dedication, and passion for operational excellence at every step of the guest journey.

Lydia Lightner
Director of Sales and Marketing

Scalzo Hospitality was fortunate to welcome Lydia to the Team in 2022 as Conference Service Manager. With remarkable drive and passion, she quickly rose to the position of Director of Sales and Marketing. Lydia brings an exceptional work ethic and a steadfast commitment to excellence. Throughout her tenure, she has consistently demonstrated creativity, efficiency and strategic focus – qualities that have made her a standout leader and a true embodiment of Scalzo’s core values. Her passion for sales and hospitality is complemented by her strength in data analysis and process optimization.
Through the implementation of streamlined sales systems and process automation, Lydia has significantly increased year-over-year topline revenues across multiple income streams. Notably, she accomplished this while training and mentoring a newly assembled revenue team, which is now on track to exceed historic performance benchmarks.

Chris Bennett
Director of Food and Beverage

Chris Bennett
Chris Bennett began his hospitality career at age 15 in a small-town Minnesota kitchen. After culinary school in Chicago and earning his degree from University of Las Vegas, he spent a decade sharpening his skills in leadership roles on the Las Vegas Strip, including time at the MGM Grand, The Palazzo, and Aria; working alongside culinary legends such as Micheal Mina, Tom Colicchio, and Wolfgang Puck.
Chris joined Scalzo Hospitality in 2017 and led the grand opening of the Twin Cities 400 Tavern in Northeast Minneapolis; playing a pivotal role in shaping its concept, team and guest experience. He later helped launch the Delta by Marriott Minneapolis NE, where he now serves as Scalzo’s Director of Food and Beverage. Known for his direct and crisp leadership style, Chris brings clarity, accountability, and high standards to his exceptional high-performance team. As a member of Scalzo’s Executive Team, he is a driving force behind operational excellence and delivering VIP-level hospitality to every guest.

As Director of Business Development for Scalzo Hospitality, Alex plays a key role in driving growth through strategic partnerships, market expansion, and revenue development. With a background in outside sales and real estate, he brings a sharp business acumen and an entrepreneurial spirit to his work – consistently identifying opportunities that align with Scalzo’s long-term, multi-generational vision.
A fourth-generation member of a family rooted in hospitality, Alex blends tradition with innovation, leveraging both data and relationships to create lasting value. He is known for his disciplined mindset, high professional standards and ability to lead with energy and focus. Whether forging new deals or strengthening existing partnerships, Alex approaches every opportunity with a results-driven focus and a genuine passion for building on his great-grandfather’s family business legacy.
